International Disability Day: International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2023

International disability day or the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a yearly United Nations observance celebrated on December 3. Its main motto is to promote the health and rights of disabled people in society. This day also creates awareness about the situation persons with disabilities struggle with in social, cultural, economic, and political life. 

In 2019, the UN launched the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy to increase the performance and standards of the organization on the inclusion of disability. It gives a strong foundation for transformative and sustainable progress on disability inclusion via every work pillar of the United Nations. Importance of 3 December International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2023

International Day of Persons with Disabilities 3 December. It promotes the understanding of disability problems and builds support for the rights, dignity, and overall well-being of disabled people. 

The theme for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “Building Back Better: Toward a Disability-Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post-COVID-19 World”. 

It highlights the importance of recovery efforts from the pandemic are inclusive of disabled individuals and address the challenges they struggle in accessing education, social protection, health, and other crucial services. In this way, we can ensure that people across the globe get equal opportunities for health, work, play, and success.

The logo usually consists of three human figures in diverse shades. Each shade represents a different disability sign – A cane, a wheelchair, and a hearing aid.
